Pratt,
You may have already heard, but Judge Reyes put a gag order on the depositions
of the 4 city council members being deposed today along with any open records
requests in relation to the case. I am no legal expert, but I would think that
open records are the property of the citizens and should not be put under lock
and key.
Just thought you might be interested in this tidbit. Thanks for your time.

Pratt responds:
Thanks for the note. I'm not sure I agree with
your take on the gag order. The mayor was planning a press conference after the
depositions which is ill advised. Because the city took the case to the media to
begin with, unique and the first time I can recall such a thing, it has created
a problem with getting to the truth.
I trust Judge Reyes. He is very sharp, more so than some other judges we have, and
honest and fair.
I've been fed so much material
from parties in the case as a member of the "media", I can understand what is
being done. The gag order prevents the city from continuing to spout off
publicly about AAG & Ted Parker which harms his business - which is what the
suit is about to begin with. That is what they have been doing.
The gag order doesn't take the
matter from the public view, the press and citizens can still observe the trial
but the parties involved have to shut up and quit attempting to paint AAG as a
crook through the media.
Maybe this puts the order in a different light. I
am not generally a fan of gag orders but in this case, it is the government
attempting to ruin a private business through the press and is well deserved.
