There are fewer races in Lubbock County closer to my
heart than that for chairman of the Lubbock County Republican Party.
The job is not a government political position, it is the head of a private
organization. It’s one of those jobs where the holder of the title of chairman
can make of it what ever he wants.
However, Lubbock and the conservative movement are damaged greatly when someone
runs for chairman who seems to want it as a resume enhancement. It is a working
job. In this race between two legitimate candidates the differences could not be
more stark.
As a former chairman and officer of the Party for time spanning more than a
decade, as well as leader of the Young Republicans for a decade before that, I’d
never met Bill Franklin until I visited with him about his decision to run for
party chairman.
In the long months, working six and seven days a week for no pay to run two
primaries, to re-elect president Bush, to raise needed funds for the party, and
to build the county’s first full-time working headquarters, I never heard from
Mr. Franklin, he never showed up for phone banks, block walks or anything else
but now wants to be chairman.
The other legitimate candidate is Chris Winn. Chris Winn became involved in the
Party well over a decade and a half ago. Winn has been active in conventions, in
party work, on the executive committee, and has worked for the Republican Party
for years.
Chris Winn knows the job of Republican Party chairman and he will work to make
our Party conservative and strong. I encourage you to vote Chris Winn for
Lubbock Co. Republican Chairman.
