Robert,

Your criticism of Delwin Jones during the election coverage was way out of line. I listened to the election coverage last night to hear the election returns, not your opinions of Delwin. If you want to be a newsman, learn to present the facts and leave your opinions on your show where I won't have to hear them. If anyone needs to apologize, the good doctor should apologize for distorting Delwins voting record. Delwin isn't perfect, but he works hard and reflects the opinions of this district. KFYO should have yanked you off the air last night for our rudeness, bias, and ego. It's bad enough to listen your crap about Delwin but your rudeness to the people you interviewed, shows me you obviously think you are better than everyone else. Some of the points you made just MIGHT be right but your "holier than thou" attitude totally invalidates any good points you might have made.

David

Pratt responds:

Mr. Gibson,

You tell me: How is insinuating that his opponent, Hnatek, doesn't belong here, doesn't go to church, and doesn't have a family, providing upstanding leadership and ethical behavior for District 83? It certainly isn't the same as disagreeing over legislative issues or philosophy. It isn't pointing out anything of Hnatek's record or funding - which is fair game. No, it is pure character assassination and you seem to support it. Turning a blind eye to that behavior says much about you and those who ignore it.

It's too bad you feel as you do. My role is to offer opinion. I'm not a news reporter nor do I pretend to be. My comments were certainly not out-of-line and were not unique from the past decade of elections shows which I've hosted on KFYO, or appeared on as a guest.

As to Delwin's record, he does not need you as an apologist. Nor are you correct on his record or work ethic. I've been in Austin a great deal and working directly with politics for more than the past decade. His voting record was not in any way distorted and if he told you so then, he lied to you too. I covered those votes at the time they were cast and we discussed them on Pratt on Texas.

I've gone from a Delwin supporter to my current position because I've observed first-hand how he has gone from being an active rep. to a rep. who keeps his office locked (unique in the Capitol; spends a good deal of time taking naps, and; who does not work to craft or influence legislation to any respectable degree. He also lied to me in an official meeting while I was GOP chairman, and through me to all Lubbock Republicans, in relation to his vote on school finance reform. He is referred to almost universally by others as the "old-fossil" and does not bring respect to our region.

He certainly had a different reputation many years ago but times change as do people. You can choose to close your eyes to legislative reality if you so wish, but it doesn't change that reality and how it diminishes our region's influence in the Capitol.

If Delwin had our interest at heart, he would have stepped aside after his last round at re-districting, the only job he seems to have wanted and enjoyed in the House for some time, and allowed younger leadership to take the position. Instead it has become all about Delwin being the state rep. for the sake of Delwin being the long-time state rep. His seniority without any influential position proves beyond anything how ineffective he has become.

Your attitude, and refusal to recognize his failures, demonstrates the problem. Instead of pointing out the projects, committee work, votes and other specifics to support your contentions, as I have done consistently, you simply make blanket statements and insult my right to have an opinion which differs from yours. This is not an example of rational, responsible thinking. Instead it is emotionally based and indicative of sloppy thinking.

Respectfully,
Pratt

P.S. I am not "holier than thou" as it is clear that your thinking and arguments are full of holes. You are perfectly free to listen or not. If you choose to listen, please remember that it's just a radio show. Unlike Delwin, I don't have the power to cast votes which take money out of your pocket or reduce your Liberty.

And, if you were concerned about distorted reporting you would be writing to the AJ about its biased, and absent, reporting on Delwin and his record. Maybe if they told you what was really happening you would not have to embarrass yourself by making claims that his record was distorted by Hnatek. Actually, I don't think that Hnatek mentioned Delwin Jones or his record in this election, he only said what he believed. Are you blaming Hnatek for comments made by others? That sure isn't fair. Please send me a copy of the mailing piece or quote the commercial in which Dr. Hnatek mentioned Delwin's record. I don't think he did it at any point.
