FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Lubbock Area Libertarians Select District Candidates

Area voters will have a Libertarian choice in November for three district races.

• Marion Smith received the Libertarian Party’s nod for Texas State Senate 28 to face incumbent, Robert Duncan, as Duncan’s only opponent in November;
• Richard “Chip” Peterson, Texas Tech Emeritus Professor, will be the Libertarian Party’s 19’th Congressional candidate, and;
• Jerry Hix will be the Libertarian party’s challenger and sole opponent to incumbent Delwin Jones for State Representative District 83.

Peterson called for a series of debates in the small towns of District 19 between himself and his opponents. “We need to pay attention to our small communities as well as our cities” said Peterson as he issued the challenge.

Brad Clardy, Lubbock County Libertarian Chairman, said the Libertarian’s will focus their efforts on the thousands of independents around the South Plains area who did not participate in the Republican and Democratic primaries. “It is an opportunity to inform these voters that the Libertarian Party is an option for them” Clardy noted that Noah Davis, a Libertarian candidate in 2002 received over 30,000 votes in Lubbock County.
