Robert,

In the "pursuit of truth" where the Mayor is concerned, I have run across a discrepancy that has piqued my curiosity. \

During a holiday function last December that was held at the "Spirit Ranch" one of the attendees enquired about the availability of beer or wine. (This annual function has never provided any alcoholic beverages, but has traditionally been held at locations where beer, wine and sometimes other alcoholic beverages were available for purchase) The employee, who may have actually worked for the restaurant hired to do the catering, was serving plates and replied that this was "City Property" and they could not serve alcoholic beverages. Huh?

I looked up that property on the Lubbock County Tax Appraisal District website, and it is held by Escondido Land Company Inc., officers (according to the Texas Secretary of State records) are: president/director - G. Randall Andrews; secretary - Susan Andrews. Interestingly enough, the property, according to the Lubbock Tax District's website, consists of 12.587 acres, includes 541,512 total sq. ft of enclosed building along with parking for 150, and is valued at a paltry $592,542. (Compare the $1 per square foot price tag to the proposed $900/sq. ft. tag that the new Visitor's center has.)

Can you shed any light on any of this? I am interested to know exactly where mayor Miller is in the whole scheme of things...since he is not even the corporation's director, is he an officer of the corporation? Is a principle owner? An owner at all? An employee? Where did the funds to make this purchase come from? What was the purchase price? And what of the server's comment that the facility was "city property", was she mistaken? Does she not know who is paying her? Is the facility/ property partially owned by the city? Or has been bought with city funds? Why would she think that? Who pays the employees that work at the facility?

On another note, in a recent (4/11) email exchange with one of the Mayors supporters, I encountered a very similar response, to that of Dan Jackson, to the "hard questions" of Mayor Miller's truthfulness. When pressed for an explanation of the discrepancies in Miller's statements, council minutes and other records, this old friend (I thought) was "offended"...please find the following quote from his email: "I pay no attention to the ravings of Robert Pratt and don't pay any attention to those that do. I am a precinct chairman for the Miller campaign and find your comments both insulting and uninformed." I guess the "indignant and insulted" arrogance is standard campaign policy.

G.

Pratt responds:

The Spirit Ranch is not city property, the waiter was uninformed. It is owned by GRACO (I believe) and leased by Miller's business (or ministry depending upon the day he says it.) Also, much alcohol is served on city property, that is how Civic Lubbock gets its money so again, the person was doubly uninformed.

As to Miller supporter, this is nothing new. That is why the axiom, "there are none so blind as those who will not see" has been in force for so long.

I mentioned this in my morning update today: that those who refuse to see Miller for what he is must suffer from the same arrogance as does he.
