About the Midland and Amarillo Visitor Centers…

After the city council and the hotel motel association kept touting the success and the wonders of the Midland Visitor Center and the Amarillo Visitor Center I thought: "I wonder how much a simple Google search on one of these newfangled computing machines can tell me about the two centers compared to the one in Lubbock’s future."

Interesting …compare and contrast costs.

I note a substantial chunk of fed ($1.5 million) and then private money went to complete the one in Midland. You didn’t hear our leaders mention that little point.

Also one has to figure the George and Gladys Hanger Abell philanthropic organization donated money to this…

Seems like maybe that is why it has been named after them.

And the Amarillo Visitor Center seems to be located in their Civic Center. We were told Lubbock would suffer grave embarrassment if it couldn’t compete with this. It appears to be a rack of brochures on a wall.
