Pratt,
I was about to quote to someone in an email the famous line No Man's life
liberty or property is safe while the legislature is in session."
but couldn't remember who it is ascribed to.
It is most often ascribed to Mark Twain, but it seems he appropriated it from Judge Gideon Tucker, a NY Lawyer, Judge and newspaper man in 1866.
In researching other notable quotes ascribed to Judge Tucker, the following is also apropos today: "The only long-term defense of liberty is to elect legislators who understand and support home schooling."
