Pratt,

I'm writing to express my opinion on the recent events surrounding Texas Tech and Mike Leach. It is obvious to all Texas Tech faculty, alumni and supporters that the suspension of Coach Leach is not about the protection of student athletes. Coach Leach did not endanger Adam James, he simply embarrassed him. Embarrassment is an unavoidable part of life. To facilitate and validate the James family’s vengeful public assault of Coach Leach is an embarrassment to the university and administration. Adam James is an adult. He is voluntarily participating in an extracurricular activity which is a privilege. He is free to choose to not participate if he disagrees with his treatment. Adam James is the only athlete to play under Coach Leach to complain about such treatment, establishing the isolated and exceptional circumstances surrounding this incident.

I feel that all Texas Tech supporters should pressure the board of regents and administration to support Coach Leach and make every effort to publicly apologize and repair damage to his image. Coach Leach is a valuable asset to Texas Tech and West Texas. His efforts have elevated Texas Tech football to a level previously unattainable. The financial support and community view of Texas Tech is based largely on performance of the athletic programs, namely football. While athletics should not be the focus of a university; unfortunately, for the majority of Texas Tech alumni and supporters, it is. To force Coach Leach to leave Texas Tech would be a tragic mistake for all individuals involved.

Thanks and I love your show.

Jason
