Lubbock Co. ME office costing us way too much

Isn’t it interesting that we are not required by law to even have a County ME office and yet we spend almost $2 million on it?

Even more interesting, under the law the JP’s are responsible for the work and when we passed those duties to the ME we in turn gave the JP’s raises rather than cutting their salaries?

Cost of an average autopsy in the Permian Basin is under $2,000. Cost in Lubbock $10,000 ($2 million divided by maybe 200 autopsies and if we do less than that, and I guess we do, then the cost is even higher).
