As to the “Critical ad [that] clouds District 84 race” as the AJ put it, there is much confusion to what is a simple issue.
The PAC, of which I am the committee (it has only one member, me) and treasurer, was aware that there were those wanting to do a mailing to inform voters about Mark Griffin’s backing of a liberal democrat for HD84 as well as the differential between the tax appraisal on his Tara mansion and what taxpayers ended up paying him for the property.
My PAC did agree, many weeks before the election that such a mailing would be valuable to voters as local media, other than Pratt on Texas, was ignoring these two important issues about Griffin.
My big mistake, in hindsight, was telling someone that I didn't have time to manage it all and that others would have to get it done if it were to happen. Included though, was the concept, very specifically, that the money had to be raised first but, that may have been forgotten in the enthusiasm of some.
The donation never made it in thus I, the PAC treasurer, was surprised when the mailing came out. It would be dishonest for me to say that I was aware it was being mailed when I had assumed that the money had not been raised and thus it was too late and was a dead issue.
It’s not as if someone just grabbed the PAC name out of the air and put it on the mailing as news stories are being crafted to imply. The PAC however, could not file a special pre-election report about this mailing as it did not raise or expend any funds related to the mailing.
The media wants to report only the part of the story that makes it appear that something underhanded happened, in which I would be the victim, but as you’ve just read, I don’t want to be a “victim” as there is more to the story. The part of the story they want to deflect from is the factual information given to voters about Mark Griffin’s past of supporting liberal-democrats and getting into taxpayers’ pockets.
Pratt
P.S. For those few ignoramuses who, for some wild reason, think I'm attempting to distance myself from the mailing for the reason that I wanted to say something but not stand behind it: Wake up morons! I’m the one who has publicly been talking about both issues that appeared in the mailer since January both on Pratt on Texas and in my KFYO morning commentary!
