Pratt:

The 2010 Texas Welcome Home Run is in the books. At one point in Brownsville we had 147 bikes in our group.

The entire run went almost flawlessly, with only a few minor dings and scrapes. No major accidents.

As always the City of Perryton welcomed our riders with open arms. The Elks Lodge provided a dinner for the riders on Saturday night.

The Chamber and City furnished breakfast Sunday morning. The opening ceremonies at the courthouse were outstanding complete with a 21 gun salute, a cannon volley, playing of Taps by a live bugler.

We arrived in Childress to a welcome dinner provided by the chamber of commerce and the Carey Baptist Church and the 1st Baptist church of Olustee, OK.

We started off Monday in the rain but with a great pancake breakfast at the Carey Baptist church. Riders then took up a love offering and presented it to the church to send underprivileged kids to church camp... After a cold, wet ride to Abilene we were furnished with a hamburger cookout at Kent's Harley Davidson. It was a great way to thaw out and for the riders to do a little shopping. Kent's has always been great about being ready to make emergency repairs for our riders even though they are actually closed on Mondays.

After lunch we continued on to Eden for a fuel stop and were surprised by refreshments provided by the Chamber of Commerce. Then it was on to Junction for a beautiful patriotic ceremony at the courthouse followed by supper at the Methodist church furnished by Christian Motorcyclist Association. A love offering was taken and presented to the CMA chapter to be donated to the Run for the Son, CMA's only fund raiser. ALL proceeds go to help foreign missionaries.

Tuesday morning started out wet in Junction but the weather quickly cleared up. Upon arrival in Leakey, TX we were surprised by Police and Fire vehicles waiting to escort us to the Frio Canyon Motorcycle Stop for a lovely reception and snacks. We then continued on to Uvalde were we met with County Judge William Mitchell. Judge Mitchell presented the event founder (me) with a Proclamation proclaiming March 16th as Texas Vietnam Veterans Motorcycle Ride (Welcome Home Run) Day in Uvalde County.

We then rode to crystal City for lunch, provided by the Zavala County Nutrition Center and the American Legion. There we were surprised by the presence of Zavala County’s State Representative. He surprised us with a House Resolution honoring our event and Texas Vietnam Veterans.

After lunch it was on to Carrizo Springs for a wonderful patriotic program presented by the Chamber of Commerce. They also provided several cases of drinking water for our riders. Dimmit County has been a great supporter of the event.

Then we had a long ride down to Laredo. We met with the law enforcement officers from the Laredo Police Dept, Webb County Sheriff's Department, and the Webb County Constable's Dept at the Texas Tourist Bureau on I-35 & US 83, and also several members of local motorcycle clubs and received a 1st class escort to Laredo Harley Davidson for refreshments. The law enforcement officers did a magnificent job of escorting us in heavy traffic and getting us safely to our destination.

Later that evening the Laredo Motorcycle Division met us at the Holiday Inn Civic Center and escorted us to American Legion Post 59 in Laredo for a rousing party and dinner.

We departed Laredo Wednesday morning and headed to Zapata where several riders from the Pharr American Legion Post 101 met us and joined in with our riders. The next official stop was the Texas State Veterans Home in McAllen.

It was such an honor to meet these heroes from past wars. We met a retired Colonel and his wife. He was an Army Air Corp pilot and flew in the Berlin Airlift. His wife is a retired NCO from the Navy. We dearly love these people and are making the Home a permanent stop on the ride.

Then it was on to American Legion Post 101 in Pharr Texas where we were served a wonderful lunch.

Now for the final leg of the trip as we once again pickup our escort and headed for Brownsville. I want to give special praise to the Hidalgo Co Sheriff's officers, The Cameron County Sheriff's Deputies, and the Brownsville Police Motorcycle Squad. They got us through traffic smoothly and without incident.

We were taken to the Brownsville Veterans Memorial Park for a welcome ceremony conducted by the Brownsville American Legion Honor Guard. What a great way to end out trek of 937 miles.

We are already looking forward to, and planning for the 2011 Run which begins on Sunday, March 13th, 2011. Also check out our Face book page (Texas Welcome Home Run).

Robert, thanks for all you have done to help us promote this event. We can never ever thank our veterans enough for their service and sacrifice. Thank you for being a huge part of our event.
