Robert,

I certainly agree with the AG that there are significant constitutional issues with Obama Care, but once we move past that there are some really spooky things about the way government operates when they start writing the Regulations that will actually implement the health care bill. One likelihood that most people will understand is related to the requirement to buy health insurance can be extrapolated from the various state requirements that we buy Auto Insurance.

Just as the Auto Insurance requirement specifies Minimum coverage as “acceptable”, this will apply to Health Insurance. So, if I accept that I “must” buy Health Insurance, but attempt to choose to only obtain “catastrophic care” insurance – a plan with very high deductible and little coverage for regular care so that those premiums are minimal, the “regulators” are going to say, “that doesn’t meet the intent of the law”, so that option will become unacceptable, and you will be FORCED to obtain more coverage than you desire. Apply that across the entire population, and that is why Premiums will rise significantly for EVERYONE.

Given some of the other things in the law, I can see this analogy extending to that of your auto loan company requiring a higher than “legal minimum” insurance coverage. I can see employers begin to require you obtain levels of coverage even higher than the official minimum, using that as “cover” in order to hopefully “keep you healthy” so you miss fewer days sick.

This is where we go when we start regulating things.

Russ
