I’ve been flooded with emails asking for my recommendations in Lubbock city and several area school district elections. Thank you for your trust and interest.

Here’s the main reason why I’m not endorsing anyone in the election of 8 May 2010.

When it comes to school boards it seems that most everyone serving and running, most everywhere, buys into the idea that throwing more money at schools, whether for facilities or administrative staffing, is the only solution to what is in reality a rotten system that costs too much for the questionable results.

And in Lubbock city elections, I’m voting for Tom Martin for mayor but not endorsing him as he has chosen to kick his conservative base of supporters in the teeth by again and again cozying up to a set of conservative-hating civic cheerleaders for whom Martin has an odd sense of respect.

Lubbock’s District 1 has a choice between a new face in capable Glen Robertson, now endorsed by Linda DeLeon, retread Victor Hernandez, and little-known Rafael Gutierrez. Robertson seems OK, though he doesn’t sound conservative, but DeLeon’s endorsement raises flaming red flags.

Lubbock’s District 5 has Stephan Lampman and Karen Gibson. Neither did anything to contact Pratt on Texas to attempt to deliver a message which would please conservatives in Lubbock. That neither would want to attempt to win over the champions of smaller government and conservatism (you) says much. And, if they're not effective at getting themselves and their message to the city’s highest rated show, that dominates their district, then how effective will either be in office?

Make you best guess. I’m not sure there is much difference in most of the candidates except in the mayor’s race where the challengers are either naïve or outright lunatics.

P.S. Once elected these folk will have plenty of opportunities to win us over with their voting record.
