It was reported across the state press this week that the City of Lubbock is refusing to cooperate with the family of the late, and exonerated, Tim Cole in their attempt to investigate what went wrong in Lubbock, that lead to his prosecution and conviction for a rape he did not commit.

Disturbingly, the Lubbock Police Department admitted to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram that it had never looked into the case, never investigated to see what might have gone wrong, in this case in which it was learned by the mid-1990's had been all wrong and resulted in the imprisonment of an innocent citizen.

Normal quality control, standard procedure in most any industry or endeavor, includes looking back at failures, investigating, and attempting to correct any practice or protocol which may have been faulty. But not in Lubbock, even though we are dealing with an issue as important as a man's Liberty being wrongly taken.

Past Lubbock behavior in this matter is embarrassing and objectionable enough. But, apparently current  officials now want to sully the community's reputation even more. Those officials are fighting in court to prevent Tim Cole's family from gaining access to records and deposing those who were involved in this travesty of justice.

Shame on you Lubbock officials. What are you hiding, what do you not want to be revealed? If nothing, then do the right thing and cooperate with the Cole family. Your convenience does not out-weigh the preservation and protection of Liberty and Justice.
