Chicago was named the Windy City due
to bellicose orations of its politicians. It's Lubbock that has the
real wind but to many of us, those few days a year where the air is
naturally brown are a blessing as opposed to a liability.
As one of the last areas of the USA to be settled, residents of the
great Llano Estacado are accustomed to self-reliance, perseverance,
and rugged individualism. Those few dusty days keep out those weak in
spirit who might otherwise settle on the gorgeous High Plains of Texas
- not a bad trade.
